Helvie Knives

Helvie knives come in a variety of shapes and handles. The handles are made from highly durable Pakkawood and the blades are a tungsten-carbon steel heat treated to 58 Rockwell hardness. All knives are sharpened to a razor's edge. As with any handmade tools, sizes are approximate and may vary. Below are some of the most popular styles that we like.

New Gerald Sears Signature Series

Series 1 is the large version...the handle is 6" in length. Series 3 is the smaller version...the handle is 5" in length.

Both knives come with Helvie Roughout Blade approximately 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" and a handmade sheath. Renowned caricature woodcarver and founding member of the Caricature Carvers of America, Gerald Sears and Helvie Knives have been working together to bring out a new line of knives, which should accommodate any hand size. The end of the knife has a knife number, like a serial number as to the order they have been made, so if you receive a number 00010, then you have the tenth knife made in that series.

Bench Knives

Bench Knife The most popular wood bench carving knife. Excellent choice for beginning wood carvers. These tools are made in Germany of Solingen tools steel with beech wood handles. Blade cutting edge is 1 1/2" long. Tang extends from handle on longer reach blade and is recessed into handle on shorter reach blade.

Leather Aprons

Top quality cow side split, selected, graded leather is used in these aprons.
They are made for us by one of the leading U.S.A. companies. We have two different styles to choose from. The first one is 24" wide and 36" long in gray leather. The other style in gray leather is 24" wide and 24" long with an 8" deep Velcro and snapped dump pouch at the bottom.

Denim Aprons

Like the rest of our cloth goods, the woodcarving apron is made of quality heavy denim. Equipped with an adjustable neck strap, this apron will fit all carvers. It can be used full length for full protection in dusty woodworking operations. It will also fold up to create a large pocket, secured by hook and loop fasteners for woodcarving. The large pouch will catch chips and hold a number of carving tools. The apron, comes complete with a sewn pocket for pencils and a large waist pocket. This is a quality apron that any woodworker or carver would love to own.
